Chisato Handstand

Chisato Handstand refers to a scene from the Lycoris Recoil anime series in which the character Chisato Nishikigi does a handstand, using one of her hands to prevent her skirt from revealing her undergarments. The scene has been used as redraw fan art reference for characters from various franchises.

Origin

On August 20th, 2022, episode 8 of Lycoris Recoil, titled "Another Day, Another Dollar," premiered^[1]. In the episode, Chisato and Takina are attending a class teaching people to speak Japanese. While Chisato purposely says words in Japanese incorrectly, Takina becomes upset and says "Handstand." Later, Chisato does the handstand with one hand while the other holds her skirt. On August 21st, 2022, YouTube^[2] user HE SENPAI 2 uploaded the scene (shown below).

On the same day, Twitter^[3] user @LoKoKaBoosTeR69 uploaded the full image of Chisato doing the handstand. The tweet received 678 retweets and more than 7,200 likes in one week (shown below).

Later that day, the scene began seeing usage as a reference for redraw fan art on Twitter. For example, on August 24th, 2022, Twitter^[4] user @Eg_si_ uploaded fan art of Junko from Zombieland Saga using Chisato's handstand as a reference. The tweet received 57 retweets and 340 likes in one week (shown below, left). The next day, Twitter^[5] user @TruffadeAzalea uploaded fan art of Yuu Takasaki from Love Live! Nijigasaki School Idol Club. The tweet received 182 retweets and more than 1,000 likes (shown below, right).

On August 26th, 2022, Twitter^[6] user @Coro_Fae uploaded fan art of Emilia from Re: Zero. The tweet received more than 1,000 retweets and 7,400 likes (shown below, left). The next day, Twitter^[7] user @dachibread uploaded fan art of Virtual YouTuber Pomu Rainpuff from Nijisanji EN. The tweet received 459 retweets and more than 5,500 likes (shown below, right).
