Chuna Laga Diya is a memorable catchphrase and reaction image from the 2006 Indian comedy movie Golmaal: Fun Unlimited. The phrase translates to "been duped" and is used to comment on how someone has been misled or cheated. The meme grew popular after the year 2020 and spread on Facebook and Instagram.

Origin

On July 14, 2006, the Bollywood comedy movie Golmaal: Fun Unlimited was released in theaters. The movie contained a scene where Vasooli (played by actor Mukesh Tiwari) was swindled out of a car by Madhav (played by Arshad Warsi) and Laxman (played by Sharman Josh). Vasooli can be seen saying "Oye chuna laga diya" in a YouTube^[1] upload by Shemaroo Comedy, which gathered over 3 million views in 3 years since its upload on Feb 26, 2020 (seen below).

The earliest known use of the screen capture as a meme was posted on November 14th, 2020 by Facebook^[2] page RVCJ Media, gathering over 25,000 reactions in three years (seen below).

On April 19th, 2021, Instagram^[5] page gothamgemphir posted a Doge meme using the catchphrase "chuna laga diya oye," gathering over 7,300 likes in two years (seen below, left).
