Cody's Wedding Vows "I Promise to Smack That Ass Every Chance I Get" refers to a viral video from Instagram and TikTok in which a groom named Cody recited marriage vows to his bride Kaitlin on the day of their wedding in Kentucky, saying, "I promise to smack that ass every chance I get," among other things. The original video was posted as an Instagram Reel in late 2023 from the account @ckentertainmentservices. Going into late December 2023, numerous users reacted to Cody's vows on social media, with many reactions being negative, often labeling them as cringe, bad and unromantic. Some reiterated the phrases "C'mon Cody" or "Come on Cody" heard during the clip to highlight their disapproval.
Origin
On December 14th, 2023, Instagram[1] user @ckentertainmentservices posted a Reel that showed a then-recent wedding he'd filmed in Kentucky centering on a couple named Kaitlin and Cody. The video highlighted their vows in which Kaitlin's were long-form and more traditional, while Cody's were short and ad-libbed, stating, "I promise to smack that ass every chance I get," among other statements. Over five days, the Reel gained roughly 51,900 likes (shown below, left).
Also, on December 14th, 2023, Instagram[2] user @ckentertainmentservices posted another Reel of the same wedding, using different angles of the same vows scene, gaining over 1,800 likes in five days (shown below, right).
Also on December 14th, 2023, @ckentertainmentservices posted one of the videos of Cody's vows to TikTok[3] where it received over 9.5 million plays and 576,000 likes in a similar timeframe.

After the virality on both video platforms, Cody's vows were reposted and dueted on TikTok, starting with TikToker[4] @tiktokithinknot on December 14th, 2023, who wrote in a duet, "female rage," receiving over 5.1 million plays and 745,700 likes in five days (show below, left).
On December 16th, TikToker[5] @aimeshughes reposted one of the Instagram Reels that included the bride Kaitlin's vows, stating in text overlay, "I would have been a runaway bride," receiving over 7.2 million plays and 222,400 likes in three days (shown below, right).

On December 15th, 2023, X[6] user @Hoopztarot reposted Cody's wedding vows, writing, "This is so embarrassing! I would’ve literally walked away🤢," gaining over 26.8 million views and 92,000 likes in four days (shown below).

The tweet inspired viral reactions via quote retweets and replies. For instance, on December 15th, 2023, X[7] user @AnaSofaKingCoo replied, "What can we expect from a man wearing vans at his own wedding? Smh," receiving over 26,000 likes in four days (shown below, left).
Also on December 15th, X[8] user @2beadsattheend quoted the video, pointing out "how the officiant gave him three chances to redeem himself and he just doesn’t," earning over 147,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).
