About
Comfy Asakusa refers to a still image of the anime series Keep Your Hands of Eizouken! character Midori Asakusa relaxing in a beanbag chair. Online, the image gained popularity as an exploitable, particularly in Spanish-speaking communities. The meme is closely associated with Sentao de Pana meme; a viral photograph of a man sitting in a chair.
Origin
On January 12th, 2020, episode two of the anime series Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, based on the manga of the same name, premiered.[1] In the episode, main characters Asakusa, Kanamori and Mizusaki explore an abandoned storehouse which they plan to use as a base of operations for their club. In the scene, Asakusa imagines herself relaxing in a beanbag chair in the refurbished storehouse.
So it's like a villa just for us! We should bring in a sofa and a TV, and bookshelves, and make it a lot more comfy!
On the same day, Redditor[2] MinMinCandy posted a cropped still image from the episode to /r/Eizouken subreddit, gaining over 170 upvotes in one month (shown below, right).
Spread
Starting on January 13th, 2020, the image received association with Senpao de Pana meme popular among Spanish-speaking users online (original meme shown below, left; Comfy Asakusa version of unknown origin shown below, center). On January 13th, 2020, Facebook[3] group "Weirdo and Chilean otaku posting memes" made the first known post in which the image was associated with the meme (shown below, right).
In the following weeks, the image gained significant spread among the Spanish-speaking users on Facebook and Instagram, used both as an exploitable and in Senpao de Pana memes. For example, a January 14th, 2020, post by Facebook[4] group Akko del barrio received over 790 reactions and 920 shares in one month (shown below, left). A January 24th, 2020, post by Facebook[5] user Perry Casillas gained over 90 reactions and 440 shares in one month (shown below, right).

On February 1st, 2020, Twitter[6] user @EuzoukenP posted a compilation of Comfy Asakusa memes which received over 7,600 views on the platform (shown below).
