About

Como você é burro ("You're so stupid") is part of a quote said by Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso during an interview on a TV show, answering the question of the journalist Geraldo Mayrink.

Caetano Emanuel Viana Teles Veloso, better known as Caetano Veloso, is a musician, producer, arranger and Brazilian writer.

Answering to what the journalist had asked, Caetano Veloso said (free translation to English):
"No, you're so stupid, man, this is crazy… you're so dumb.. this is absurd… Everything you just said was stupid….. stupid..
I can't even remember anything you just said because you speak in a dumb way".

The video (just the meme, not the whole interview):

Origin

It all started on a Brazilian television show called "Vox Populi". Caetano Veloso was there answering several questions. In one of the questions, a reporter asked a question about the military regime in Brazil and Caetano replied repeating several times that "he was stupid". The interview was first aired in 1978.

Spread

Despite being a fairly old interview (dated 1978), it became popular on the internet years after it happened (that's why the meme is dated 2012), since the station that had originally aired this interview reprised it as a celebration of 40 years of broadcasting. A user posted a video in 2012 that had the whole answer given by the singer to the question of the journalist Geraldo Mayrink (the video is named "Caetano Veloso Puto 5 – Detonando Geraldo"). Soon, the video started getting attention and became a meme widely used by Brazilians.

On April 9th, 2013, a video of Brazilian congressman and evangelic pastor Marco Feliciano was posted on YouTube, where he attributes Veloso’s success to a supposed deal with devil. One day after, Paula Lavigne, former wife of the singer, has tweeted a link to aforementioned video. The tweet said: “Answer of Caetano to Feliciano LOL” (free translation). It was a joke, like Veloso were calling Feliciano stupid. This helped to increase the meme's popularity even more, since Marco Feliciano is a famous congressman known for his controversial opinions.
