Crying Tyrese, also known as Cryrese, refers to a viral video of actor and recording artist Tyrese Gibson tearfully discussing his the custody battle over his daughter. The video has since become a reaction video, as well as the subject of various photoshops.

Origin

On November 1st, 2017, amidst a series of emotional and inflammatory social media posts, Tyrese published a video of himself crying about the custody battle over his daughter. The video has since been deleted (mirror below).[1]



Spread

Following the post, people online began using the video as the punchline to various jokes about emotional breakdown. For example, Instagram user @rob_lane_edits posted the video under the caption, "When she say 'go deeper daddy,' but you fresh out of dick." The post received more than 15,000 likes and 200,000 views in two years (shown below).

On November 3rd, American musician DJ Suede the Remix God released a song that remixed the audio from the Tyrese video entited "I Just Want My Baby" (available below). He captioned the song, "If this go Platinum I’ll start crying too."


On December 28th, 2017, Tyrese commented[2] on the memes by posting one of them and adding the caption: "My birthday is in a few days, I’m out here living by best life…….. HahahaA….. people keep tagging me with my legendary #CryReses meltdown, if I wasn’t me I would of clowned me too." The post received more than 70,000 likes in less than two years (shown below).

Several media outlets covered the video and subsequent respond, including The Root,[1] People,[3] BET,[4] TMZ,[5] Billboard[6] and more.
