About
RFK Jr.'s Inverted Food Pyramid refers to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services RFK Jr.'s plan to essentially invert the existing food pyramid, placing protein, dairy, healthy fats, vegetables and fruits at the top and whole grains at the bottom. The change, announced in January 2026, comes after inquiries about the effectiveness and accuracy of the traditional food pyramid. The food pyramid's inversion inspired online discourse, drawing parallels to an episode of South Park in which the food pyramid is turned upside down.
History
On January 7th, 2026, RFK Jr. spoke at a White House press briefing. Kennedy Jr. announced a change to the Department of Agriculture's dietary guidelines, showing off a new food pyramid that has been flipped upside down to place "protein, dairy and healthy fats" and "fruits and vegetables" at the top, and "whole grains" at the bottom, suggesting you should eat more of the things at the top and less of the things at the bottom.[1] The previous, traditional food pyramid emphasized eating more grains and less meat, fats and oils.[2]
