Dad Try This, It's Zesty, or the Zesty Dad Trend, refers to a TikTok trend in which someone tells their dad to try some food because it tastes zesty, followed by the dad trying the food and saying in an effeminate voice, "That is zesty." The meme is a play on the slang term "zesty", which is used to describe someone, typically a man, as flamboyantly gay or effeminate. The trend is derived from a viral video posted to TikTok in December 2023 and was popularized on the app in October 2024.
Origin
On December 11th, 2023, TikToker[1] @beedexter posted a video in which her mother tells her father that the beans are a little zesty. Her dad eats a spoonful of beans then looks into the camera and says in an effeminate voice, "So good." The video gained over 23.3 million views in 11 months.
The video was reposted to TikTok several times over the following months, including by TikToker[2] @football.archive12334 on January 7th, 2024, garnering over 4.5 million views in 10 months.

In October 2024, TikTokers began posting videos recreating and referencing the original viral video, following a similar format with their dads. For example, on October 10th, 2024, TikToker[3] @chloe.ll1323 posted a video recreating the original, garnering over 6 million views in three weeks. This is the earliest known video to recreate the original.

On October 19th, TikToker[4] @anisha.mullin.07 posted a version of the trend that garnered over 19 million views in two weeks. On October 21st, TikToker[5] @breeroset posted a version that garnered over 23 million views in a week.

On October 29th, TikToker[6] @ashleypicock12345678 posted a video following the trend in which her dad exclaims, "Jesus that is zesty," garnering over 9.5 million views in three days.
