About

Dadsgiving refers to a photoset of adult men enjoying a meal filled with bizarre food items, such as a blue turkey and corn-on-the-cob in a hot dog bun, in an undecorated room with bales of hay strewn about.

Origin

The pictures were taken by photographer Chris Maggio[1] and were published November 21st, 2013.[2][3] The pictures were commissioned by Food Republic, who published the images in a slideshow, calling the work of Maggio "the antithesis of food porn." The pictures are intentionally unsettling.[4] While there are several images in the slideshow, the most notable images are a picture of the men lined up in front of a table of food (shown below, left) and a turkey covered in blue Powerade (shown below, right).

Spread

On November 27th, 2013, Buzzfeed covered the photoset.[4] Over the following several years, the photoset did not inspire many variations but was widely shared as an example of cursed images. The photoset was covered in the first episode of The Verge podcast 1,000 Words, a podcast about strange internet images.[5] It was also widely shared on Tumblr. A post of the photoset[6] by moonlandingwasfaked gained over 26,000 notes. A picture of just the line of dads gained over 183,000 notes.[7] On November 23rd, 2017, the photoset was shared by Facebook page Dadspot.[8] The same year, it was posted to Imgur[9] under the title, "Cursed Thanksgiving." It was shared the following year to /r/cursedimages[10] with the same title.
