Dancing Meloetta refers to a series of YouTube remixes featuring a clip of the Pokémon Meloetta dancing from the Pokémon Best Wishes animated television series. While the clip of Meloetta dancing remains the same, people online change the music it dances to. The song and dance have also inspired live performances and YouTube remakes.

Origin

On May 17th, 2012, the 79th episode,[1] "Sekka Gym Battle! Ice Battlefield!!," of the animated television series Pokémon Best Wishes premiered, debuting a new end credits song entitled "Mitte Mitte Kotchitchi." On May 26th, 2012,
YouTube[2] BrybryPokebip uploaded a clip of the Pokémon Meloetta dancing to the song. As of July 2017, the video has more than 75,000 views. (shown below).


Spread

Less than a year later, on October 26th, YouTuber[3] MsBunnyHop83 uploaded a longer version of the video. This version, as of July 2017, has received more than 1.5 million views.

On September 15th, 2012, YouTuber[4] Dracomut posted a video of the Pokémon dancing to a song from the video game Sexy Parodius. The video (video below, left) received more than 8,000 views in five years.

Two months later, on November 7th, YouTuber[5] Kaiyou1691 posted a version (shown below, right) Meloetta dancing to Cartman's "German Song" from the animated TV series South Park.


In 2013, the dance also became a popular routine for fan remakes and live performances of "Mitte Mitte Kotchitchi." On January 21st, 2013, YouTuber[6] Zave State posted a video from Pokémon Day Chile in which a group of people dance to the song and performing Meloetta's dance in unison. The video (shown below) has more than 12,000 views as of July 2017.
