About

Dancing With The Stars Leg Lift Trend refers to the dance move created by the football player Danny Amendola during his dance with Witney Carson on the TV show Dancing With The Stars in which he raises Witney up from a laying down position using just her leg. The dance move, which impressed the judges, quickly went viral on TikTok with several other people uploading their attempts at the move and tutorials on how to best accomplish it.

Origin

On Tuesday, October 15th, 2024, the episode of Dancing With The Stars premiered on Disney+, which featured Danny Amendola and Witney Carson dancing to a remix of the song Unsteady by X-Ambassadors. The performance was later uploaded to YouTube by the official Dancing With The Stars YouTube channel[1], where it quickly gained over 724,000 in two weeks (shown below).

The dancing trend soon took over TikTok, with people being quick to upload their own variations of it. On October 19th, 2024, the TikToker aubskurnick[2] uploaded a TikTok in which they did the dance move, but made it into a challenge by claiming that the roommate's boyfriend wouldn't be able to stay if they were unable to execute the move, which became a similar caption in other TikTokers examples, and earned over 1.2 million likes in two weeks (shown below).

Spread

The trend continued to grow in the following week, to the point where it started to receive mainstream attention. On October 25th, 2024, the official YouTube[3] channel for Good Morning America uploaded a segment from their own coverage earlier that day on the trend, while including an interview portion where the two stars who created the dance talked about the response they've seen to it online, gaining over 170,000 views in five days (shown below).

As the dance move spread across TikTok, so did the number of failed attempts that were uploaded. On October 27th, 2024, the USC Volleyball player AllyBatenHorstt[4] uploaded a TikTok in which she attempted to do the leg lift using a smaller player of her Volleyball team, showcasing that the issue with attempting it comes from the counter-balance of the fulcrum, and that being a tall person makes it more difficult (shown below).
