dark urkel tribute is an exploitable scene from the ending of an episode of Family Matters. The scene led to various work of fan art, as well as fan recreations of the scene.

Origin

The meme comes from the ending of the Family Matters episode Stevil 2: This Time He's Not Alone, which first aired on October 31st, 1997.[1] In the episode, Carl Winslow rescues Steve Urkel from their evil doll counterparts, Stevil and Carlsbad. As Carl leads Steve towards the front of the house to escape, Steve shakes off Carl's hand and says "What's the rush?" before his eyes start to glow and shoot lightning into Carl's eyes.



On April 19th, 2017, Tumblr user smugladies[2] posted an edit of the scene that adds the Three Days Grace song Animal I Have Become. The video received over 41,000 likes and over 46,000 reblogs in over eight years. The video was reposted to their YouTube[3] channel on April 21st, 2017, where it received over 35,000 views in over eight years. On November 1st, 2019, smugladies[4] posts a higher quality version of the meme to their YouTube channel, which received over 113,000 views in over six years.

On May 7th. 2020, Tumblr user ronaldreagancutupwhiletalking[5] posted a variant of the meme using a scene from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The video received over 10,000 likes and over 9,500 reblogs in over five years.
