Dobby Going Crazy, or Dobby Having a Seizure refers to a viral video of a puppet resembling Dobby from the Harry Potter film series shaking uncontrollably at the dinner table as if having a seizure. The video, often set to Franz Schubert's song "Ave Maria," was first uploaded to YouTube in 2017 and became popular on TikTok in 2021 as an exploitable image macro used to describe the difficulty of fighting various urges.

Origin

On June 21st, 2017, YouTuber[1] Dong posted a video titled, "dobby is having a seizure" set to the song "Fireflies" by Owl City in which a puppet resembling the house-elf Dobby from Harry Potter has what appears to be a seizure at the dinner table, shaking more and more intensely as the video goes on (shown below). The video gained over 47,000 views in four years.

Me Fighting The Urge To X TikTok Trend

On April 21st, 2021, TikToker[2] @hangesss_w1fe posted the video set to the composition "Ave Maria" by Franz Schubert[5] and the text, "me fighting the urge to say 'up your ass' when my mom asks where the remote is," garnering over 3.6 million views in two months (shown below).

As the video went viral, it inspired numerous other TikTokers to use the video alongside variations of the phrase "me fighting the urge to X" as an image macro format. For example, on April 22nd, TikToker[3] @talktome36_ posted a new version of the trend, garnering over 1.9 million views in two months (shown below, left). On May 2nd, TikToker[4] @michael_loduca posted another new variation, garnering over 2.2 million views in a month (shown below, right).

As of June 15th, the original sound "dobby going crazy"[6] has inspired over 10,000 videos on TikTok.
