About

Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a live-action adaptation of the American children's animated television series Dora the Explorer. Directed by James Bobin, the film stars Isabela Moner, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, Danny Trejo and Benicio del Toro.

History

On October 24th, 2017, The Hollywood Reporter[1] announced that James Bobin, director of 2011 The Muppets, would direct a live-action adaptation of the television series.

The following year, on May 2nd, 2018, Deadline[2] announced that Isabela Moner had been cast to play the titular role. Months later, actor Benicio del Toro was announced to play Swiper the fox, the show and film's antagonist.[3]

On March 21st, 2019, actor Danny Trejo announced that he had been cast to play the animated character Boots the monkey. Additionally, he tweeted a photograph of the first poster for the film. The post received more than 1,600 retweets and 4,600 likes in 24 hours (shown below).

Two days later, at Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards, the first trailer for the film premiered. Additionally, the trailer was posted by Paramount Pictures on YouTube, where it received more than 8.9 million views in two days (shown below).

On March 24th, 2019, a series of trailer reactions were posted on YouTube. That day, YouTubers Dwayne N Jazz posted a reaction that received more than 92,000 views in 24 hours (shown below, left). Additionally, YouTuber Beyond the Trailer posted a reaction that received more than 100,000 views in 24 hours (shown below, right).

That day, Redditor [3] DemiFiendRSA posted the trailer on the /r/movies subreddit. The post recieved more than 20,000 points (82% upvoted) and 3,200 comment in 24 hours.
