Drake Reading A Book is an exploitable picture of Canadian rapper Drake in which he is reading the novel FRANK 151 Chapter 35: Samoa. The image has been used as a Photoshop meme format in which fans replace the book in the rapper's hand for mangas and other well-known novels. The photo also notably appeared in the 2019 Did You Seriously Talk During Independent Reading Time image macro meme.

Origin

Although the exact date of when Drake's picture was taken is unknown, the earliest found upload of the Drake reading a book^[1] picture was posted on August 17th, 2015, on Tumblr by user @torontodrizzy^[2], which paired the rapper's picture with the macro "when yo mom walk into ur room expecting u to be on that phone but u just look at her like." The post (shown below) amassed over 749 notes in nine years.

Spread

Over the following years, Drake's picture reading a book became a popular exploitable and photoshopped meme on social media in the Did You Seriously Talk During Independent Reading Time meme. For example, on October 24th, 2019, Reddit^[3] user r/DrakeTheType posted Drake's image paired with the overlay text "Bro did you just seriously talk during independent reading time," which amassed roughly 3,300 upvotes and 14 comments in five years.

The meme also remained popular for the next few years. For instance, on April 23rd, 2020, X^[4] page @thefader replaced the book in the rapper's hand with a Naruto manga (shown below, left), which garnered roughly 152 likes and 30 retweets in four years. On February 28th, 2024, X^[5] user @dailygojou replied to a tweet saying "If you’re 25+ and unmarried, what are you doing?" replacing Drake's book with a Jujutsu Kaisen manga, which amassed over 19,000 likes and 4,600 retweets in three days.
