Ducks Looking Up At A Meteor, also known as Meteor Ducks, refers to a viral video of a meteor shower that occurred on a Portuguese Twitch channel during the night in mid-May 2024. The event led to several fan reaction videos, as well as fan art depicting the event and the ducks gazing at the shooting star.
Origin
The meteor event occurred on May 18th, 2024, on the Twitch livestream channel OnePortugueseFarm.[1] During the livestream, ducks on the farm were recorded looking up and observing a meteor that had passed over them, which lit up the night sky (shown below).
Spread
On May 21st, 2024, a clip from the stream was reposted to the Twitter / X account Dexerto,[2] where it received over 293,000 likes and several quote retweets.
In late May and early June 2024, artists on X / Twitter began posting fan art of the ducks watching the meteor shower in Portugal. X[3] user @hyxpk posted fan art depicting rubber ducks looking up at the meteor shower on May 22nd, gathering over 200,000 likes in two weeks (seen below, left).
Also on May 22nd, X[5] user @nyakaio posted Ducks Looking Up At A Meteor Shower fan art, gathering over 300,000 likes in two weeks (seen below, right).
On May 25th, 2024, X[4] user @prenkuchan posted Ducks Looking Up At A Meteor Shower fan art as well, gathering over 176,000 likes in a week (seen below, top). On May 31st, X[6] user @orenjikunArt posted fan art as well, gathering over 128,000 likes in three days (seen below, bottom).
