Eggette, also known as Omelette, is a fanmade character based on an upside-down Eggman sprite from the game Sonic Mania.

Origin

On August 27, 2017, Twitter user @blackbookalpha posted concept fan art (shown below, left) for a character, based on the flipped sprite of Dr. Eggman from the Spider Boss of Flying Battery Act 2 from Sonic Mania (shown below, right).^[1] As of September 9th, 2017, the post has received 6.8k retweets and 18.5k likes, with most fan art matching the original fan design. Most fans use the originally proposed name Eggette, while other fanon names include Omelette, Omeletta, and Eggatha.

Spread

The tweet quickly inspired others on Twitter to create their own versions of the character. A thread on Eggette was posted to NeoGaf^[3] on the 28th. Two days after the original post, the "Eggette" and the fan art she inspired were covered by Polygon (examples shown below).^[2]

Sonicstadium.org^[5] wrote about the character on September 1st. On September 6th, 2017, YouTuber TNHGameRemixes [Nebula] uploaded an idea for what Eggette's music would sound like, gaining over 20,000 views (shown below).

As of September 13th, 2017, there are over 200 submissions under the "eggette" tag on DeviantArt. ^[4] Other sites to cover Eggette include Dorkly^[6] and Gamewatcher.^[7]
