About

Eggman's Evil Plan refers to a series of edits of a clip from Sonic Mania Adventures, where Sonic sees a video on the villainous Dr. Eggman's portable device, which annoys him and causes him to activate a bomb and run.

Origin

On March 30th, 2018, the first episode of the Sonic Mania Adventures animated series was released. It received over 2 million views within a month.[1] The episode contained a scene where Dr. Eggman is tied to a rope above spikes, and a bomb is right beside him. Sonic reluctantly decides to rescue Eggman, but then Eggman drops a device on the ground. Sonic picks it up and it shows Eggman's plan to get all of the chaos emeralds. Sonic changes his mind about rescuing Eggman, instead activating the bomb and running away (shown below).

Spread

On the same day as the episode was released, YouTube user EpicsonicFTW uploaded the first edited version of the clip (shown below, left). He replaced Dr. Eggman's plan on the screen with a clip of a YouTuber claiming that Sonic Forces is better than Sonic Mania. It reached 150,000 views in about a month. Later that day, user NoaMegaDrive uploaded a second video in the same style, replacing the contents of the screen with Sonic Adventure gameplay of Sonic rolling down a hill (shown below, right). It gained over 1,000 views in under a month.
