About
Eminem vs. Hitler refers to a series of memes depicting hip-hop artist Eminem in a rap battle against Adolf Hitler. The joke was first made in a YouTube video in 2011 and then photoshopped into an image in 2018, which became the subject of image macros. In 2022 a Friday Night Funkin' mod based on the meme was published, repopularizing it.
Origin
On October 1st, 2011, YouTuber[2] Vasili Mumladze posted a video titled "Eminem Vs Adolf Hitler Rap Battle" combining a clip of Eminem rapping "Sing for the Moment" and Hitler making a speech, dubbed over with Biggie Smalls rapping "Come On," gaining over 49,000 views in 12 years (shown below).
On October 1st, 2018, MemeDroid[3] user J7Noob posted a photoshop combining an image of Hitler and Eminem, showing Eminem rapping into a microphone as Hitler stares, gaining 91% positive feedback in four years (shown below). This is the earliest known post of the photoshop.
Spread
The photoshop of Eminem rap battling Hitler became the subject of image macros that year. For example, on November 16th, 2018, Imgur[4] user Zodiacc91 posted a fake history meme using the image, gaining over 107,000 views and 2,300 upvotes in just over three years (shown below).
On December 21st, 2020, Redditor gunnergio14 posted a History Channel at Night meme to /r/memes[5] using the image, gaining over 20,600 upvotes in just over a year (shown below, left). On June 27th, 2021, Redditor stonkiezz posted a Time Traveler meme to /r/memes[6] using the image, gaining over 12,300 upvotes in 10 months (shown below, right).
Friday Night Funkin' Mod
On January 3rd, 2022, Game Banana[1] users and modders ThatOneCupid and Zeff111 posted a page for a mod for Friday Night Funkin' featuring a recreation of the Eminem vs. Hitler rap battle meme where the two face off. The page was viewed over 282,000 times in three months. The mod features coding by Jcd and Salty Sovet, the voice work of Slim JayD as Eminem and Banbuds as Hitler and artwork by Swiffzz and yelloguy. The mod has since been removed from the site for violating the rule on "Hate Symbols," however, an in-browser version is playable on KBH Games.[10]
On February 24th, FNF modder team VMCE posted a fan-made version of the mod to Game Banana[7] (shown below) gaining over 5,500 downloads in just over a month.
To promote the release of the official mod, various creators of it shared memes and teasers of it on Twitter throughout the first quarter of 2022. On January 7th, Twitter[8] user @slim_jayd_ posted a meme using the Hitler sprite and sharing that there will be two versions of the mod, one that removes the swastika from Hitler's coat so streamers can showcase it without fear of removal (shown below, left). On January 13th, Twitter[9] user @RiotPoopy posted a piece of fan art referencing the stop beatboxing meme based on the mod (shown below, right).
