Endrick Bobby Charlton Interview, also known as Endrick Liking Old Things, refers to a series of memes about Brazilian Real Madrid football player Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa (aka Endrick) saying that one of his idols is English footballer Bobby Charlton who played in the 1960s and '70s. The meme's based on an Endrick interview with New Balance in which he named Bobby Charlton and Cristiano Ronaldo as his idols. Endrick saying that Charlton was his idol generated hilarity because of the absurdity of Endrick watching old black-and-white football footage and appreciating Charlton's play. The trend evolved into memes about Endrick liking old and even prehistoric things like cave paintings. Endrick and Bobby Charlton memes surfaced across social media sites like Twitter / X, Reddit and TikTok in August 2024.

Origin

On August 2nd, 2024, TikToker^[7] @futbolemotion posted an interview with Real Madrid player Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa for New Balance. The blonde female interviewer asked Endrick who his idols were and he listed Cristiano Ronaldo and Bobby Charlton. Over 11 days, the video received roughly 5.9 million plays and 404,400 likes (shown below).

Sir Bobby Charlton was an English football player whose career spanned from 1956 to 1979 in the Premier League. He's most known for his time at Manchester United. Charlton passed away in October 2023 at the age of 86.^[2]

Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa's comment about Bobby Charlton being one of his favorite players generated memes because Charlton was a retro player well before Endrick's time in professional soccer (Endrick was born in 2006), which many found humorous. For instance, on August 7th, 2024, X^[4] user @maxstephh tweeted a screencap of Charlton's interview, showing the interviewer asking him, "Cat or dog?" and Charlton answering "Dinosaur," receiving over 96,000 likes in six days (shown below, left).

On August 9th, X^[3] user @TrollFootball posted a photoshop of Endrick and Charlton playing together in a black-and-white photo, gaining over 123,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).

On August 9th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @delantero09 posted a new New Balance interview clip with Endrick, in which a male interviewer asked him to name his top five favorite footballers from history. Endrick again named Ronaldo and Charlton (among others). Over two days, the video received roughly 3.2 million plays and 2018,500 likes (shown below).

On August 11th, TikToker^[5] @metanfetagol posted fake black-and-white footage of Bobby Charlton playing and Endrick in the audience clapping, receiving over 3.9 million plays and 458,400 likes in two days (shown below).

The abovementioned video then went viral on X^[6] across multiple posts.
