Chrissy Metz Alison Brie Comments
On the red carpet, This Is Us actor Chrissy Metz was asked if she knew Alison Brie of GLOW. However, following the interview, in a since-deleted tweeted a video of the moment with the caption, "Here’s Chrissy Metz calling Alison Brie a “bitch,” not knowing her mic is still on" (shown below).[13]
Metz denied the allegations. That night, she tweeted,[14] "It’s terribly unfortunate anyone would think much less run a story that was completely fabricated! I adore Alison and would never say a bad word about her, or anyone! I sure hope she knows my heart." The tweet received more than 85 retweets and 1,400 likes in 24 hours (shown below).
Emma Stones's Aloha Apology
During the event, host Sandra Oh made a joke about Emma Stone playing a woman of Hawaiian and Chinese descent, despite not being Chinese or Hawaiian, in the 2015 film Aloha. Many criticized the role at the time, accusing the film and character of "whitewashing," a perceived trend in Hollywood in which white actors take non-white roles.
Sandra Oh said of the 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians as "the first studio film with an Asian American lead since Ghost in the Shell and Aloha."
Following the joke, Stone could be heard from the crowd yelling "I'm sorry!"[3]

Christian Bale's Acceptance Speech
When accepting the role for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his role as former Vice President Dick Cheney in the film Vice, Christan Bale spoke in his actual Welsh accent (video below). During his speech, he thanked "Satan" for giving him the inspiration to portray Cheney.
Some were surprised to be reminded that Bale speaks in a Welsh accent because most of his most famous roles require an American accent. Twitter[6] user @jtylerconway tweeted a Surprised Pikachu in response to his accent. The tweet received more than 2,600 retweets and 12,000 likes in 24 hours (shown below, left).
Others were offended by Bale's joke about taking inspiration from Satan. Cheney's daughter Liz Cheney tweeted[7] a link to an article about Bale's previous assault allegations. She wrote, "Satan probably inspired him to do this, too. Christian Bale arrested for 'assault on mother and sister." The tweet received more than 4,000 retweets and 8,400 likes in 24 hours (shown below, center).
The Church of Satan tweeted,[8] "To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential. As Mr. Bale's own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan!" The tweet received more than 4,400 retweets and 13,000 likes in 24 hours.
Glenn Close Reactions
In one of the evening's biggest surprises, Glenn Close won Best Actress in a Drama for her role in The Wife, beating the favorite Lady Gaga, who starred in A Star Is Born. Throughout the night, many memed a photograph of Close staring at Lady Gaga. Twitter[10] user @elbirdilara tweeted the photograph, which received more than 3,400 retweets and 12,000 likes in 24 hours (shown below, left). Twitter[11] user @blackmon tweeted, "Glenn Close came to get her things!" The tweet received more than 200 retweet and 950 likes in 24 hours (shown below, center).
When Close won, her wide-mouthed reaction to the announcement was also shared. Twitter[12] user @JarettSays tweeted, "it would appear Glenn Close also did not expect Glenn Close to win." The tweet received more than 715 retweets and 3,700 likes in 24 hours (shown below, right).
