Pomni is main protagonist of the 2023 animated dark comedy series The Amazing Digital Circus. The most recent human to enter the digital world, Pomni is trapped together with the rest of the characters in the digital dimension and seeks a way out. Pomni's digital appearance is that of a jester. Following the premiere of the series in October 2023, the character achieved massive popularity online, becoming a subject of fan art and memes.

Origin

On January 26th, 2023, official teaser for the dark comedy animated series The Amazing Digital Circus, created by Gooseworks in cooperation with Glitch Productions, premiered on X^[1] / Twitter and YouTube.^[2] The teaser introduced Pomni, a pale female character in a red-and-blue jester outfit. In the teaser, Caine, another character from the show, performs a knife throwing act, hitting Pomni with knifes multiple times.

On September 22nd, 2023, the official trailer for The Amazing Digital Circus premiered, accumulating over 6.7 million views on YouTube^[3] in one month (shown below, right).

On October 13th, 2023, the pilot episode of The Amazing Digital Circus premiered on YouTube (shown below).^[4]

In the series, Pomni is a human who gets trapped in a digital plane after wearing a virtual reality headset. In her new reality, Pomni is a stylized humanoid character dressed in a red-and-blue jester suit. She has pale skin, slim limbs and an oversized head. Pomni is trapped together with several other characters, including Jax, Ragatha, Gangle, Kingler and Zooble, all of whom got trapped in the digital plane before her. In the first episode of the series, Pomni is yet unsure if her new reality is not just a dream and desperately seeks a way out of it.^[5] Pomni constantly exhibits neurotic behavior and anxiety.

Pomni's current name was given to her by Caine, the ringmaster of the Digital Circus, and her human name is currently unknown. In Russian, Polish and Bulgarian, "Pomni" is a word related to memory: for example, in Russian, "помни" is the imperative form of the verb "to remember."

Pomni is 25 years old.^[6]

Pomni saw minor presence in fan art since the release of the teaser for The Amazing Digital Circus in January 2023. For example, on January 29th, 2023, artist ThePervyBiscuit posted several 3D renders of Pomni on DeviantArt,^[7] gaining over 280 favorites and 29,000 views in nine months (shown below, left). On February 4th, 2023, artist @abacetencio posted a fan art of Pomni and Caine that received over 90 reposts and 690 likes on X^[8] in nine months (shown below, center). On April 27th, Redditor Real_SuperWillaimBro posted a fan art of Pomni with a knife sticking from her forehead which received over 140 upvotes in the /r/TheDigitalCircus^[9] subreddit six months (shown below, right).

Following the premiere of the pilot episode of The Amazing Digital Circus in October 2023, Pomni achieved massive popularity online, primarily on X and Tumblr, becoming a subject of memes, fan art and other fan labor, including NSFW artworks.

For example, on October 14th, 2023, artist @gy_sup posted an I'm at My Limit meme fan art of the character that received over 2,100 reposts and 10,800 likes on X^[10] in ten days (shown below, left). On October 15th, 2023, artist @TheInkyWay posted a fan art of Pomni drinking together with Pizza Tower protagonist Peppino, with the meme referencing the sudden and massive popularity of both characters. The post (shown below, right) received over 3,000 reposts and 16,800 likes on X^[11] in nine days.

Pomni Dread Zoom-In is a video caption meme format based on the ending scene of the pilot episode of The Amazing Digital Circus in which the camera zooms in on the main character Pomni as full realization of her situation dawns on her. The scene achieved popularity as a caption format on YouTube and other platforms shortly following the premiere of the series in mid-October 2023.
