Swatting

On January 24th, 2021, after posting her video on Instagram, Siwa confirmed that she had been the victim of a swatting, in which police responded to a false report of illegal activity at her residence. On the Instagram account of her videographer Nate Javier, she described the incident as "really scary." She continued to explain that she believes that paparazzi photographers were behind the report. She said, "Basically what happened is we were at our house and there were a bunch of police to get out of the house […] we went outside hands up because we obviously have to follow the rules and do what you're supposed to do […] And then the police were saying that somebody had called and made a claim and then all of a sudden paparazzi came from around the corner."

"I recently 'came out to the internet' is officially the term, the media is obviously very excited which I love and I love the support however, you know, you could have just hung outside my house and I would have eventually come outside."

On January 23rd, YouTube account TRQFFIC published a video of Siwa and other residents outside their home with police. The post received more than 9,600 views in less than 24 hours (shown below).
