About

Le Clash Des Gitans (in English: Clash Of The Gitanos) is an online feud that took place by interposed videos between two French Gypsy men in 2012 and 2015, becoming a viral sensation for French internauts at the time.

History

In December 2012, seemingly after an altercation between the two men, David Lopez posted on YouTube a since-deleted video (see repost below) in which he insults and provokes his cousin, Joe Lopez. The video became infamous for David's unhinged behaviour and vocabulary, as well as for the way he prompts his wife to shut up.

The feud did not continue until 2015, soon after Joe was released of prison. He, along with other Gypsy men from his clan, recorded a response video in a similarly aggressive fashion, which he then posted online. This would be the beginning of a back-and forth escalation of verbal violence and intimidation between the two parties.

Online Reactions

The feud between the two cousins soon attracted the attention of many French social media users, who rapidly nicknamed this event Le Clash Des Gitans, in reference to the movie Clash Of The Titans.

This feud has been commented on and parodied by several internauts. On May 26th, 2015, Anthony Joubert uploaded on YouTube a parody[2] which gained over 1 million views and 5,300 likes in over 9 years.

French Youtuber Cyprien uploaded on May 28th, 2015 a humoristic reaction video[2], which gained over 33,6 million views and 623,000 likes in over 9 years.
