Overview

Mizkif Assaulting Mitch Jones Allegations, also known as Mizkif and Mitch Jones Fight, refers to an altercation between Twitch streamer Mizkif and fellow streamer and friend Mitch Jones that spread online in early February 2024 after Jones discussed the incident in an on-stream retelling. According to Jones, who shared accompanying camera footage recorded by a doorbell camera, Mizkif allegedly knocked Jones out and damaged his teeth in the altercation when he was punched. However, since the accusations appeared, numerous streamers and other individuals have come forward and refuted his claims, also alleging Jones was the aggressor or instigator of the fight. The video and claims sparked widespread controversy online as they were discussed in various communities, such as /r/LivestreamFail, in early 2024.

Background

Mizkif and Mitch Jones, both streamers on Twitch, have known each other for years in the industry. Footage dating back to January 1st, 2019, uploaded to the YouTube channel Val[1] shows the two having a verbal altercation that turned physical with a push by Mitch Jones, which received over 23,000 views in five years (shown below).

Allegations From Mitch Jones

On February 6th, 2024, Mitch Jones talked about the altercation on stream and uploaded a breakdown of what purportedly happened that day, including his injuries, to his official YouTube channel.[2] According to Mitch Jones, he sustained injuries that almost led him to have surgery on an artery. He went on to catalog further injuries and issues that resulted from the alleged assault. The video, in which Jones shows the before and after of the fight, includes purported doctor's notes and talks about the reasoning behind it, getting over 161,000 views in 11 hours (shown below).

Online Reactions

Immediately after the video and story started to spread, people began to look into the allegations and come up with their own opinions, with a significant amount of them not being on the side of Mitch Jones. For example, on February 6th, 2024, YouTuber @BusterLIVEonYT[3] created a post on X in which they pointed out that the footage shown by Mitch Jones edits out potentially crucial context and details, casting their own doubt on whether they believe Jones (shown below).

Also on February 6th, the stream from Jones in which he initially made the allegations was reposted to the /r/LivestreamFail[6] subreddit, receiving over 5,100 upvotes and 1,800 comments in one day.

Due to previous interactions that Mitch Jones has had with Mizkif and other streamers, many fans were quick to turn on him in the wake of the edited video and allegations, with breakdowns of the video being posted that many perceived as detrimental to the credibility of Jones and his accusations. For example, on February 6th, streamer JakeLucky posted on his X account @HUN2R[4] sharing his thoughts on the video, including his reasoning for not liking the way Mitch Jones portrayed it (shown below).

Hunter @HUN2R Subscribe The Mitch Jones accusations against Mizkif are serious, and I want to respect that and and treat the situation carefully However I also don't love a lot of things about Mitch's video... The main ones being that 1) He cut out the section where the fight initiated, which we hear Miz say Mitch pulled open his door and said "Let's go" after telling him repeatedly he could take Mizkif and "F**k you" 2) He repeatedly used being intoxicated as a reason Mizkif shouldn't have fought him. If you're coked up and drunk and you're trying to fight someone, they have every right to swing at you MIZKIF: You're drunk and on cocaine

Many other streamers and content creators weighed in on the controversy as it continued spreading online. For example, Twitch streamer Alinity[7] discussed it on her February 6th stream and stated that Mitch Jones was fighting other people after the altercation with Mizkif (reupload shown below). The clip was also reposted to /r/LivestreamFail,[8] receiving over 2,200 upvotes and 280 comments in 21 hours.

Developments

Mitch Jones Follow-Up

On February 6th, 2024, Mitch Jones took to X to post a follow-up to his video and to give additional context. In the post,[5] Jones talks about the ways he expected people to take the lack of context given in the video and doubled down on Mizkif allegedly using more extreme shows of force to what Jones claims were verbal-only confrontations. The post ends with Jones saying that he would not do any podcasts or media appearances and would not post any further about the fight that took place, including the edited-out footage of the event (shown below).

Mitch Jones @MitchJonez Final Statement About Being Assaulted When I decided to share what happened to me at the hands of Miz, I knew that certain things would be taken out of context in relation to the incident. Being on the internet, I know the gossip channels, fans, and others will try to jump to conclusions on either side and try to decide or justify certain points of view. I am not going to argue with anyone, I want to clarify and set out my clear and final public statement on this assault. To be clear, the reason that I came out publicly about this matter is that 1) I wanted to get this off my chest as I had been sitting with this and I hearing rumors about the incident which were not true 2) I want to make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else and 3) I want to highlight that violence is not the answer to an argument. I want Miz to take responsibility for his actions. I do not plan to take any legal action or personally push this further but if I have to I will. While I don't want to continue to talk about this, I realize that certain out-of-context statements could be confusing. To stop people from jumping to conclusions or pushing a narrative, I will be correcting some wrong information and owning what I did or did not do. I will not be appearing on any podcasts or shows to talk about this so please dont ask. ... Here are the facts: 1. Yes, I was intoxicated. I am not proud of the situation, but my personal mistakes do not justify or warrant being assaulted based on a verbal argument. 2. Yes I said some things that were not nice and so did Miz. We were in a verbal argument going back and forth and in the heat of the moment we both said things that we would not have said otherwise. But nothing that was said justified being knocked unconscious and choked and strangled. 3. There was not "another person" involved or a second "incident" with someone else. This is just false and stated by people with other motives or trying to create a false narrative. Miz did this and assaulted me in what was a heated verbal argument. Why he decided to attack me is not something I understand or agree with. 4. No, I did not physically pull Miz from the car or make any aggressive contact with him in any way. The statement that he made in the video was that by our verbal argument and statements I "pulled" him from the car. I never hit him or physically engaged with him, but I was choked, punched, and attacked. 5. No I do not plan to be releasing any more incident-related documentation. I am putting this out to set the matter straight and dont want to continue to go back and forth with people about this. The truth has been clearly stated and I want to make sure everyone knows where we are with this. 6. The facts are the facts and while you may not like what I contributed to this situation, nothing gives the right for another person to put another person's life in jeopardy over a verbal dispute. Taking a stance that someone "deserves" to suffer what could be life-threatening injuries for mere words leaves us all in a worse position. Having a bad day, that you aren't proud of, should not justify someone trying to almost kill you.
