Overview
Mutahar Keffals Transphobic Caricature Controversy refers to discussions about a video posted by OrdinaryGamer (aka Mutahar) in mid-May 2024 in which he discusses the likelihood that streamer Keffals defrauded her fans and spent $100,000 worth of money donated for her legal fund on different expenses. Soon after Mutahar's video was posted, many fans criticized the cover art (drawn by @JustAWormArt) he chose to represent Keffals, with some expressing that it depicted her as a sweaty and unflattering caricature of herself. Other onlookers also saw the drawing as transphobic, while some defended it by saying it matches the artist's general style and was unintended.
Background
On May 11th, 2024, Mutahar @OrdinaryGamers made a post on X[1] / Twitter (seen below, top) about a YouTube[2] video he posted titled, "Why Keffals Is A Complete FRAUD…" The post was captioned, "Uploaded a new video regarding a serious fraud of an activist known as Keffals. Over an hour of deconstructing her various lies and examining her terrible lies will prove to you why she is danger to people they represent and those surrounding them."
The thumbnail in the post featured a drawing of Keffals by @JustAWormArt, who is known for their distinctly sweaty and unflattering art style, and their history of posting their art on Kiwi Farms.
Keffals responded to Mutahar's video on May 11th, posting on X[2] specifically commenting on his decision to use what she called a "transphobic caricature" of herself, and his use of an incorrect "they" pronoun to refer to her. The post gathered over 2,000 likes in two days (seen below).
Developments
Other internet users weighed in on Mutahar's thumbnail, calling the art transphobic and criticizing Mutahar's use of the image. For example, on May 11th, 2024, X[3] user @BigChromie quoted Mutahar's post, writing, "I find keffals annoying as hell and generally dislike her as a person, but this thumbnail is not okay dude. It's very obviously playing into transphobic stereotypes, but I think you know that" (seen below, left).
The user then compared art from @JustAWormArt depicting SSSniperwolf in his sweaty, unflattering style. @BigChromie argued that Keffals is made to look like a man, while SSSniperwolf is not. Other internet users, however, pushed back on this interpretation (seen below, right).
Also on May 11th, X[4] user @NewsM101 posted a screenshot of Keffals using @JustAWormArt's drawing in a video about Vaush, calling her a hypocrite for criticizing Mutahar for using the same artist.
Other discussions about Mutahar's video on Keffals over the following day revolved around its content, including some discussions in which a person attempted to push back against Mutahar's allegations that they were "groomed" by Keffals, while Mutahar denies making the accusations (seen below).[5]
On May 12th, 2024, X[6] user @Staroxvia posted a thread breaking down supposed evidence that alleged Keffals had defrauded her fans and spent donated money on expenses unrelated to her legal fund. The post gathered over 4,000 likes in a day (seen below).
It's time to talk about the Keffals GoFundMe Situation
Below, I will prove:
1) Keffals misled donors and spent 100K dishonestly
2) Her "legal case" with Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario is dead, and Keffals has been lying about its status to avoid questions related to the money pic.twitter.com/mpj2qxQF2b— R🔅x 🇵🇸 (Sun Cult Priestess) 🍾🌸🏳️🌈 (@Staroxvia) May 12, 2024
