The R8 Revolver was a weapon added to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the 8th of December. The weapon was originally based off the S&W M&P R8, which was manufactured and produced by "Smith and Wesson." The R8 Revolver in Counter-Strike was best known for the criticization of the range, accuracy, and damage it produced when fired. On December 10, 2015. two days after the release, the R8 Revolver was nerfed tremendously, decreasing the damage by 74%, but increasing the spread from 0.48 to 0.52.

Although the 357 Magnum first had high-damage, it was actually, in-a-matter-of-fact, under dramatized. As the M&R R8 Ammo (357 Magnum), has a real-life force-of-impact of 583, while the gun in-game has damage of 115. That is a 468 difference. To get more precise results, 468 divided by the velocity (1,450) multiplied by 100 equals an average of a 32% difference between the real life and in-game revolver (originally).

The R8 revolver had a different method-of-firing then the rest of the weapons. Instead of firing using left-click on a mouse and switching modes using right-click. The aspect was switched. This had a difficult effect on some players.

When the R8 Revolver in CS:GO was first recognized as "over-powered," a Change.org petition (started on the "CS:GO Steam Discussions Sub-Forum") started to remove the R8 Revolver from the game. People who had owned R8 Revolver skins were outraged by this. As of now, the Change.org page is buried.

Some notable examples is The R8 Revolver and its effects on eSports. As players could not only use this repetitively on eco rounds, but could use it for most of the match. This meant that players did not need to buy much. Also, the weapon could be used in "pistol rounds" too, but later changed so the gun can only be bought after pistol rounds have ended.
