Gronk Butt refers to a viral photograph of Baltimore Ravens cornerback Rashaan Melvin accidentally pulling down the pants of New England Patriots tight end Robert Gronkowski while attempting to tackle him from behind.

Origin

On January 10th, 2015, the New England Patriots faced the Baltimore Ravens in a battle to clinch the spot in the AFC championships. During one play, Tom Brady (#12 Patriots) passed the football to Robert Gronkowski (#87 Patriots) while Rashaan Melvin (#39 Ravens), in an attempt to tackle Gronk, tried to seize his legs. Melvin's move caused Gronkowski's pants to slip, revealing his rear end.

A photograph of the incident (shown below) soon went viral on social media, especially Twitter, and was highlighted by several online publications.

Soon after the incident, the hashtag #gronkbutt[2] began trending on Twitter as users discussed, photoshopped, and parodied the photograph. Among the most notable of these parodies was a photoshop of the Kim Kardashian Paper Magazine Cover.



The photograph and the reaction of social media was covered by several sports and cultural blogs and publications, including Deadspin[3] and BDCwire.[4]

On January 10, 2015, two Novelty Twitter Accounts named #GronkButt
and Gronk's Crack was created in response to the event.
