About

The Waukesha Parade Incident is an event in which a red car sped through a parade event in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The result led to – as of 11/22/21 – 5 confirmed deaths and 40 wounded individuals. Details as of this point are still foggy, but a suspect has been found under the name, "Darrel Edward Brooks."

Origin

On November 21st, 2021, the 58th annual Waukesha Parade would take place, with no discernable issues at the time. The annual event would last from 4 – 6 PM, CST. At around 4:39 PM, an S.U.V. tore through the location of the parade, leaving 5 dead, and 40 injured as of the initial impact. Among the casualties and fatalities were children, adults, and the elderly.[1] The following video shows the red SUV barrelling down the road as police make pursuit at an unknown amount of time later. Likewise, the aftermath of the incident can be seen, as various belongings of the attendees are still scattered about the road.

Twitter user @bennyjohnson presented another video in a tweet with more shots of the car ramming through the parade. The viewing audience of the parade can be seen jumping out of the car's path, or flat-out getting hit by the car. (WARNING: depictions of death and/or serious injury present. As of November 23rd, a sixth death was confirmed after the victim had been admitted to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin [2]

Darrel Edward Brooks

Only one suspect has been officially made and tried in court. "The man taken into custody after an SUV drove into a Christmas parade on Sunday night is 39-year-old Milwaukee local Darrell Edward Brooks Jr, say police"[3]. Brooks has made his court appearance on Tuesday, where his bail has been set at $5 million.[4] The following tweet involves the judge's explanation for the high bail amount:

The motive for the crash is still not quite known, though police reports say that the suspect was fleeing from the scene of a domestic incident he was responsible for.[5] Earlier reports say he was fleeing from a knife fight, though that appears to be mere speculation as of now. With both theories in mind, it can be concluded that this is an act of negligence rather than premeditated homicide.
