About
Everyone Disliked That, also known as Everyone Liked That, refers to an interface message in 2015 Bethesda roleplaying video game Fallout 4, which notifies the player that two or more companions disliked or liked their recent action. Online, screenshots of the notifications have been circulated as reaction images with an implied meaning of strong disapproval or approval depending on the text used in the image, especially in response to positive or negative news articles or stories.
Origin
On November 10th, 2015, Bethesda Softworks released the roleplaying video game Fallout 4.[1] In the game, companions, both discovered and undiscovered, react to various actions performed by the player by changing their affinity level.[2] For example, picking a lock triggers a positive reaction from some characters and a negative reaction from others. The player is notified of the change in affinity by notification messages such as "Cait liked that" and "Paladine Dance disliked that". If more than one companions observe a certain action and react to it in the same way, the "Everyone liked/disliked that" message pops up instead.
On August 30th, 2017, Reddit[3] user ChainsawOctopus posted a screenshot of such notification to /r/gaming subreddit, titling their post "[Fallout 4] Reaction to Bethesda's Creation Club". The post gained over 19,600 upvotes in six months (shown below). On the following day, an unknown Redditor used the image for a post in /r/funny subreddit, gaining 15 upvotes in the same period.[4]
