Original Video

Origin

On October 20, 2010, CAGW, or Citizens Against Government Waste, uploaded a an advertisement to their youtube page after several television networks refused to show it. The original video shows a Chinese professor in the future lecturing students about the mistakes that America had made.

The way the Chinese were depicted in the video sparked a reaction from viewers, some speaking out against the racism of the video others supporting the video. However, two days later, parody videos were being made, changing the subtitles in a similar nature to the Hitler Downfall Meme. Some people have even changed the subtitles and imagse shown in order to change the ad so that it attacks Republicans.

Outrage

Shortly after the video was uploaded, several blogs started to talk about the advertisement, especially in the Asian community. Many said that the advertisement was not only racist and xenophobic, but that it was also innaccurate considering China's own stimulus packages. On the other hand, groups such as Young Americans for Freedom took the advertisement seriously and saw it as a warning of what the future could become.

Further outrage came from the reveal that not only were most of the "Chinese youths" in the advertisement not even Chinese, but also that most of the actors were lied to and believed that they were initially going to be extras in a scene from the upcoming Transformers 3 movie.

Blog Involvement

On October 25, 2010, a group of Asian blogs comprising of disgrasian, Angry Asian Man, 8asians, and Reappropriate teamed up to hold a parody contest for the original Chinese Professor video, calling the contest itself "Make Your Own Evil Chinese Professor Parody". The contest soon gained the attention of Asian entertainment group Channel APA and Asian-American magazine Hyphen.

Parodies

The most popular parody is a partially animated one from Taiwan featuring a talking panda.
