About

The Axe and Knife Girl Video, also known as the Young Queen of Scots Video, is a viral public freakout video of a reportedly 14-year-old Scottish teenager, misreported as being named Mayah Sommers, allegedly defending herself from a "migrant" who tried to assault her by brandishing a knife and an axe at her alleged assaulter or assaulters, one of which is filming the incident. Police responded to the scene and reportedly arrested the girl on weapons charges. The full context of the video has yet to be confirmed. The clip went viral across social media in late August 2025, inspiring fan art and memes, earning Sommers the nickname "Young Queen of Scots" and inspiring backlash towards the police for arresting Sommers when she was allegedly acting in self-defence. The incident was used by many as an example of the dangers they believe immigration has brought to the U.K., referencing the European Migrant Crisis, despite the full context of the video being vague. Others additionally claimed that the practice of teenagers carrying weapons like knives and accusing people of being predators when confronted in public is a common occurrence in Britain.

Origin

On August 24th, 2025, a video of a reportedly 14-year-old girl brandishing a knife and an axe, allegedly to defend herself and another young girl from a predator, went viral on social media. In the video, the knife-wielding girl and another girl are heard yelling at a man, possibly several men, with accents. One of the men is filming the incident. He encourages her to show her weapons, and she does, brandishing a large knife and axe. Additionally, in the clip, one of the girls can be heard yelling, calling the unknown men "kid bashers."

The earliest known account to post the video was X[1] / Twitter user @RebreakNews that day, garnering over 1.4 million views and 3,400 likes in three days. It is unclear if this is the original post or a repost.

According to a report by The National,[2] the incident took place on St. Ann Lane in the Lochee area of Dundee, a city in Scotland, on Saturday, August 23rd. The report claims that a 14-year-old girl, presumably the girl in the footage, was arrested and charged with brandishing the weapons.

The girl is not named in any official reports of the incident and is purportedly not named Mayah Sommers, as some have claimed.

On Facebook,[3] a woman named Abbie Sommer, who many believed to be the mother of the girl in the video, released a statement on August 26th, 2025, claiming that Mayah, her daughter, was not the one with the knife and did not appear in the video, but was on the scene at the time.

Spread

The video of the young girl and her altercation with the man quickly went viral on social media in late August 2025, inspiring memes, discourse, debates and widespread media attention.

On August 24th, 2025, X[4] user @Basil_TGMD reposted the video, writing, "Little girls scream at a migrant recording them before brandishing an AXE and a KNIFE to warn him off. What is happening to our country?" garnering over 104,000 likes and 23 million views in three days. Shortly after, a discussion about the video was started on 4chan's[5] /pol/ board.

On August 25th, X[6] user @Basil_TGMD posted what they stated to be an update on the situation, sharing a Facebook post by someone named Abbie Sommer, who claims to be the mother of one of the girls on the scene at the time, but not in the video. She offers more context and images of the alleged men behind the camera, writing:

My daughters friend who is 13 years old just got attacked by these 2 people in lochee! They where trying to chat up this girls 12 year old wee sister so she told them to leave her alone and these 2 jumped on her! My daughter was with her and called the police. Her friend is 13 year old and in hospital now! these people now with police but also now conveniently can't speak English anymore……. they sure could talk English when they where fucking perving on a 12 year old girl!!!!!

The post gained over 30,000 likes in two days and likely started the rumor that the knife-wielding girl is named Mayah Sommers. The original Facebook post has seemingly been deleted since.

Also on August 25th, 2025, X[13] user @lil_doza made a post sharing unverified claims that the young girl in the video was in the wrong and that "Nazis" are spreading misinformation about the incident. In the post, they write:

This incident being shared by rightwing grifters deceiving people what actually happened in St Ann Lane, Dundee. This App is full of Nazi liars and it only takes a few big accounts to spin a narrative. The teen’s mother got into a fight with his sister prior to the incident. The mother is locally known to be an addict and not the first time her daughter was caught with weapons. After the fight the teen girl pulled up with an Axe and a knife. The man noticed and starts recording them and they change the narrative to ‘stop touching me.' Police called later, they checked CCTV footage and the teen with weapons was charged and the man was let go. Not the first time the teen in question has been arrested for a similar offence of carrying a weapon. I did a quick research on the mother and her social media is filled with photos of foreign men being accused. The daughter’s are always involved.

On August 26th, X[9] user @RealDixonUranus posted a meme sharing an image of someone in the video game Skyrim brandishing a knife and axe, writing, "POV: You're a 14-year-old White girl in the UK," garnering over 86,000 likes in a day.

The meme was reposted to 9GAG[10] that day to over 5,000 upvotes, as well as the /r/PeterExplainsTheJoke[14] subreddit, where it received over 14,000 upvotes and 500 comments in the same timeframe.
