FFXV Car Driving, also known as Driving Men, is a photoshop meme in which a cut out of the protagonist Noctis from the upcoming Japanese role-playing game Final Fantasy XV is shown driving a car along with several of his companions.

Origin

On September 17th, 2014, a trailer for Final Fantasy XV was released at the Tokyo Game Show 2014 event (shown below).

Two days later, an Anonymous user started a thread on 4chan's /v/ (video games) board by posting a exploitable picture of the group driving and looking at the side. Many users created their own photoshopped versions of the picture. An archive of the thread has not been found.

Spread

On September 20th, Redditor lucmuh submitted a photoshopped image of the Final Fantasy characters appearing ordering food at a drive through restaurant to /r/gaming^[1] (shown below). Within one week, the post gained more than 4,000 votes (93% upvoted). In the comments section, other Redditors posted additional photoshops after a template image was provided.

The same day, Japanese Twitter user @kabubunet posted a tweet featuring the characters driving up to a Japanese drive through menu, gathering upwards of 2,300 retweets and 1,100 favorite in four days (shown below).

During a livestream^[3], Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata brought up the FFXV Car Driving meme featuring Noctis and his friends in a car, looking off to the side. He then encourages fans to make more FFXV Car Driving memes.
