Firing a Gun at the Sun refers to a series of object labeled images from the first-person perspective of handgun being pointed at the sun.

Origin

On July 4th, 2018, Twitter [1] user @JacobxMcClain posted an image of a handgun being pointed at the sun with the caption "I've had enough." The post (shown below) received more than 238,000 retweets and 567.000 likes in two weeks.

Two days later, on July 6th, Instagram [2] user @cinematographymemes published a photoshopped version of the tweet, change the sky to an orange and red colored sky. The image was captioned, "when magic hour is almost over but you haven't finished yet." Within two weeks, the post (shown below, left) received more than 175 likes.

On July 7th, Tumblr [3] user blazkowicz posted the image, which received more than 54,000 notes in two weeks.

Less than two weeks later, on July 18th, Redditor [4] _knight_templar posted an object-labeled version of the image in the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit in which the gun is labeled "tweets using a hashtag" and the sun is labeled "American political establishment. The post (shown below, center) received more than 475 points (94% upvotes) and 485 comments.

That day, a photoshopped version of the image in which the gun is changed to a water pistol was posted on the /r/dankmemes subreddit by Redditor kyak. The gun in the image is captioned "me downvoting a post from the frontpage." The post (shown below) received more than 49,000 points (92% upvoted) and 390 comments in 24 hours.
