Football In Pixel Art refers to a series of viral videos uploaded on TikTok of famous football players' interviews recreated with Pixel Art animation. The animation is inspired by that of the PC game XP Soccer. The videos became a recurring trend on TikTok in June 2022.

Origin

The first viral introduction to the game_ XP Soccer_ ^[1] was shared by its creator @dave.xp^[2] on June 13th, 2022, in his TikTok account. The developer began to share the evolution of his game and has accumulated 90 million views and 5 million followers as of September, 2nd, 2022.

On July, 4th, 2022, @dave.xp posted a video recreating the meme of the football player Cristiano Ronaldo screaming "Siiiii" (sometimes misheard as "Siuuu") after he scores a goal or wins an award. The video received 25 million views and 3 million likes in two months.

Spread

The success of the Cristiano Ronaldo pixel art video inspired the creator to post more football content, like the "Encara Messi" trend, a popular TikTok audio trend from June 2021. This video (below) reposted by TikToker^[4] @footballcrazzyjr_ shows an example of the trend, uploaded in 2021 and gaining over 4 million views and 582 likes in approximately one year.

TikTok user @dave.xp continued to post videos using this style. His video showing a pixel art team selection (seen below) was posted on August 10th, 2022. It gained over 359,000 views and 14,700 likes in less than one month.

Football pixel art also occasionally involves American football, such as in this example by TikTok^[3] user @pixelpicasso. This video (seen below) was uploaded on August 9th, 2022, earning approximately 88,000 views and over 9,700 likes in less than one month.
