About
Shovel Knight is a 2D Side Scrolling Platformer created by Yacht Club Games. The game mimics gameplay and graphics that are found in platformer games on the NES.
History
On March 14, 2013, Yacht Club games launched a crowdfunding campaign on the site Kickstarter with the initial goal of $75,000 USD. The campaign was successful, raising $311,502 with 14,749 backers. The game was released on June 26th, 2014 in North America for Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and Microsoft Windows. The game was later released in Europe as well as other gaming platforms.
Reception
Upon release, Shovel Knight has received widespread critical acclaim from reviewers and consumers alike and was nominated for numerous awards.
Cameos
Shovel Knight has made appearances in several Indie titles since his inception. Cameos range from a Easter Eggs to playable character. Titles include: Runbow, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Starr Mazer, Crypt of the NecroDancer, Road Redemption, and more.*
