The word is prevalent in hip-hop and rap culture, as the expensive wheels are indicative of wealth and a luxurious lifestyle. In 2019, the song "Ballin" by Mustard and Roddy Rich repopularized the term, particularly through the lyric "I Put the New Forgis on The Jeep," with the Axel in Harlem animation notably having the slang word used in its viral sped-up TikTok audio.

Origin

The earliest notable post to refer to Forgiato Wheels as "forgis" was a January 1st, 2015, tweet by Migos^[1] on their official Twitter account (@Migos) in which they said, "Offset and Quavo new toys!! both forgis." The tweet gathered over 1,000 likes in over seven years and is the earliest known use of the slang term (seen below).

Spread

The term then faded somewhat into obscurity, with minor usage in reference to the wheels and the lifestyle, until the Axel in Harlem animation was uploaded to TikTok with remixed audio from the Mustard and Roddy Rich song, causing the line "I put new forgis on the jeep" to be the first thing spoken in several meme audio remixes on the platform. This was uploaded to the platform on January 6th, 2023, by TikToker quepro_1019^[2] (shown below).

On February 21st, 2023, TikToker xeo_matrix^[3] continued the trend of using the song and phrase "Forgis On The Jeep" by attaching it to a video of SpongeBob watching a different animation of a similar genre to the Animan Studios, featuring D.VA from Overwatch before it gets switched to football, earning over 100,000 likes in one week (shown below). The video also notably uses the SpongeBob Watching TV meme template.
