Fox Eye Challenge is a viral beauty hack in which someone shaves off the outside tips of their eyebrows and uses makeup to draw on a higher brow. Though people have been using this hack well before it was dubbed the fox eye, TikTok users turned the hack into a trending challenge in January 2020.

Origin

On January 24th, 2020, TikToker @emmakdance uploaded the earliest known video of the viral challenge (shown below). The video gained over 65,000 likes in several weeks.

Precursor

On November 9th, 2019, Redditor Eunuch_Provocateur uploaded photos from a Blepharoplasty plastic surgery eye lift to r/Botchedsurgeries[3] calling the procedure "Fox Eyes" (shown below).

On Decmber 22nd, 2019, YouTuber AshGhotCakessTV uploaded the video "Shaving Off The Ends Of My Eybrows To Look Like a 'Model'" (shown below). The video which did not refer to the hack as the fox eye challenge gained over 356,400 views in two months.

Spread

On January 28th, 2020, TikToker @ronnie.sweatshirtuploaded a video in which they shave off half of each eyebrow (shown below, left). The video accumulated over 158,100 likes in two weeks. On January 30th TikTokers @seaweedslaps and @clownbbaby uploaded videos with the #foxeye hashtag (shown below, right). The videos garnered over 2244,500 likes and 11,500 likes respectively in two weeks. Both Refinery29[2] and The Daily Dot[1] published articles on the trend.
