Friday Night Funkin' or Black History Month? refers to a viral video where a boy asks another boy at school to pick a preference between Friday Night Funkin and Black history month, resulting in the boy raising an eyebrow similar to The Rock's Eyebrow Raise meme and refusing to answer before walking off. The video was posted to TikTok in September 2022 and gained viral spread that month.

Origin

Sometime prior to September 15th, 2022, TikToker @wzrdybutcooler posted a video where he approaches a student and asks, "Friday Night Funkin' or Black history month?" The student raises his eyebrow and asks why he wants to know and is told, "just answer the question." He says, "I refuse to answer the question" and walks away. The video has since been deleted but was reuploaded to Twitter[1] by @_claypot on September 14th in a tweet that has also been deleted. The video was reuplaoded to YouTube on September 21st with an additional Vine Boom sound effect as he raises his eyebrow, garnering over 347,000 views in a month (shown below).

On September 14th, 2022, Instagram[2] user bepiz.man posted an edit of the meme adding The Rock's Eyebrow Raise image to the video, garnering over 65,000 likes in a month (shown below).

On September 15th, TikToker[3] @aceyyyy_15 posted a video asking the same question to kids in school, posting several more videos like this over the following weeks. The first video earned over 500 likes in less than one month (shown below, right), while the second video earned over 2100 in roughly the same amount of time (shown below, left).

On September 16th, Twitter[4] user @NxtDeterio retweeted @claypot_'s now-deleted video, writing, "i have the stop everytime i see this video im crying why does he actually do the rock eyebrow thing so mechanically," garnering over 11,000 likes and 1,500 retweets in a month. On September 22nd, TikToker[5] @deviousrapnews posted a version of the video set to the EHHHHHHH EH EH EH sound, garnering over 4.2 million views in three weeks.
