Game of Thrones House Sigil Parodies are a series of fan artworks illustrating the heraldic badges of various groups, both real and fictional, in the style of the coats of arms featured in the HBO fantasy drama TV series.

Origin

The earliest known collection of Game of Thrones sigil parodies was submitted by DeviantArt[10] user Lokiable on May 6th, 2012. The set featured Game of Thrones-style emblems for a variety of other popular TV shows, films and video game franchises, including Captain Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean and Spider Man. In December that year, Lokiable’s pop culture sigils were reposted by The Laughing Squid[11], The FW[12] and The Mary Sue.[13]

On June 7th, 2012, College Humor[2] published “Game of Thrones House Sigils for Other TV Families.” The post featured house sigils for popular shows such as Downington Abbey and The Walking Dead. The College Humor TV sigils were reposted by many sites including UpRoxx[3], io9[4], and Buzzfeed.[5]

On March 23rd, 2013, Redditor CerebralBypass submitted a collection of house sigils for the characters of the science fiction television show Firefly to Reddit's /r/geek/[6] thread. As of March 2014, the submission has over 300 upvotes.

On March 29th, 2013, College Humor[7] published "12 Game of Thrones House Sigils for the Internet" which created sigils for popular websites such as Twitter and Facebook. The sigils were reposted by several sites such as The Laughing Squid[8] and Kotaku.[9]
