Atheist Arya is an advice animal image macro series featuring a photograph of the character Arya Stark^[6] (played by Maisie Williams) from the HBO television series Game of Thrones, accompanied by captions mocking religions and supernatural beliefs.

Origin

On November 2nd, 2013, Tumblr^[1] user halfprincesshalfgoddess posted an image macro featuring a photograph of actress Maisie Williams portraying the character Arya Stark in Game of Thrones with the caption "Did you just use your bible to warn me about hell? / May I quote from ASOIAF to warn you about Joffrey?" (shown below).

Spread

Over the next year, halfprincesshalfgoddess posted additional variations of the image macro to her Tumblr blog. On May 14th, halfprincesshalffgoddess uploaded five Atheist Arya examples, which garnered upwards of 630 notes over the next year (shown below).

On May 14th, a compilation of Tumblr^[5] user halfprincesshalfgoddess's Atheist Arya were posted on The Bot Forums.^[4] On the following day, the same image macros were highlighted on Cheezburger.^[3] On May 18th, Redditor MandrewJackson submitted an Imgur gallery of the image macros to the /r/AdviceAtheists^[2] subreddit.
