Garlic Peel Life Hack refers to a viral video of someone simply picking out cloves of garlic from the bulb with a paring knife which became popular due to the method's simplicity.

Origin

On June 16th, 2019, Twitter user @VPestilenZ posted a video of someone picking out garlic cloves from the bulb with the caption, "As someone who makes a lot of Korean food, this is the best method for getting garlic peeled!" (shown below). The tweet gained over 389,900 likes and 133,000 retweets in two days.




Spread

On June 17th, 2019, Chrissy Teigan [1] retweeted the video which garnered over 359,600 likes and 56,600 retweets (shown below, left). That same day, Twitter users voiced their resentment for not known this trick soon. Twitter user @CDDye[2] tweeted, "I’m 33 years-old. I’ve lost no less than 4 years of my life peeling garlic. It’s too late for me. I hope younger generations can benefit" (shown below, right). The tweet gained over 500 likes in a day.

That same day, Twitter users began trying out the hack. It worked for some users like @KaviMontanaro[3] who tweeted, "oh boy it's real. I got it pretty quickly although not nearly as fast as you are" (shown below, left). Their tweet garnered over 800 likes in two days. Twitter user @RebeccaCNReid[4] tweeted, "We have tried it in our office and it DOES NOT WORK" (shown below, right). The tweet gained over 800 likes in a day.
