Ghostface Cult is a TikTok Cult in which users change their profile pictures to an image of Ghostface from the Scream franchise and follow each other, meant as a way to gain a large number of followers quickly. The most common Ghostface cult image shows a parody of Ghostface from Scary Movie smoking marijuana blowing smoke from the mask. The cult began in October 2021.

Origin

On October 20th, 2021, TikToker[1] @scream.cult_leader posted a video showing a man in a smiling Ghostface killer mask blowing a plume of smoke from the film Scary Movie, largely a parody of Scream. A text-to-speech voice encourages users to follow the account and change their profile picture to the same image to gain followers (shown below). The video gained over 13,700 views in just under two weeks.

Spread

The cult spread across TikTok over the course of October as users changed their profile pictures to the Ghostface smoking weed image and made videos discussing the cult. On October 22nd, TikToker @____kfc_____ changed his PFP and posted a video with a TTS voice saying "I'm leaving my phone off for 12 hours ghost face cult show me what your made of," encouraging the Ghostface cult to follow him back (shown below, left). The video gained over 7.5 million views and boosted the TikToker from 60,000 followers to 120,000 followers in 11 hours, as shown in a follow-up video posted the same day (shown below, right). As of November 1st, the TikToker has over 725,000 followers.

On October 23rd, Dexerto[2] reported on the trend. On October 25th, Distractify[3] reported on it. On October 27th, TikToker[4] @noahglenncarter posted a video explaining the cult, gaining over 1.6 million views in five days (shown below).
