The Giordano TikTok Filter is a TikTok visual effect of an old man in a blue polo shirt with one eye appearing behind users as if sneaking up on them. In mid-2022, it was used to prank unsuspecting persons. Giordano himself is the father of Italian TikToker Luca Bellei (@lucabellei27) who created the filter in June 2022.

Origin

On June 15th, 2022, TikToker[1] aida.creator posted a collab video with TikToker lucabellei27 that introduced him and his father Giordano as well as the new filter they created with the likeness of Giordano. In one month, the video received roughly 3,400 plays and over 240 likes (shown below, left). Later on June 15th, TikToker[2] georgehalsey8 used the filter on himself, being the first to do so. His video received roughly 181,900 plays and 50,200 likes in one month (shown below, right).

Spread

On June 16th, 2022, TikToker[3] fation_doda_93 posted a video that used the filter on himself, wherein, he got scared by Giordano appearing behind him. Over the course of one month, the video received roughly 150,300 plays and 3,400 likes (shown below, left). It wasn't until June 20th, 2022, that TikToker[4] lucabellei27, the son of Giordano, used the filter, earning roughly 55,800 plays and 4,200 likes in one month (shown below, right).

On June 22nd, 2022, verified TikToker[5] iambessii used the filter to scare his friend, earning roughly 379,500 plays and 20,700 likes in one month (shown below, left). Also on June 22nd, TikToker[6] la_fifush used the filter to scare her friend, earning roughly 1 million plays and 44,600 likes in one month (shown below, right). The virality of these two videos within Albanian TikTok ultimately popularized the filter and spread it outside of Italy and Albania.

On July 2nd, 2022, German TikToker[7] daveee.gtd pranked his friend with the Giordano filter, gaining roughly 7.2 million plays and 549,100 likes in three weeks, ineffectively being the most viral example up until that time (shown below, left). The trend then spread to American TikTok in July 2022. For instance, on July 3rd, 2022, TikToker[8] viosrtd pranked his little brother with the filter, earning roughly 9.5 million plays and 1.2 million likes in three weeks (shown below, right).

Many of the videos that used the Giordano filter also used the same sounds, those being the Windows XP Start Up Sound and the SoundCloud song "Hotel" by Lawsy.[9]
