About

Girl With The List, also known as Pregnancy Cons or by the phrase Where Is The Girl With The List, refers to a catchphrase used to describe a creator on TikTok who compiled a list of reasons not to have a baby based on various TikToks that showed the negative side effects of having children. The phrase is often seen in the comments section of videos that show the negative sides of childbearing and rearing. TikToker @yuniquethoughts began her project in February 2022 and continued adding cons to her list over the course of 2022. She eventually published the entire list of 350 cons on the internet.

Origin

On February 20th, 2022, TikToker[1] @yuniquethoughts posted a video where she screen recorded a woman explaining why a pregnant woman might experience her butt becoming flatter after giving birth. Then, @yuniquethoughts, also known as Yuni, showed her adding that fact to a list on her Notes app named "Reasons to have a child burst through your vagina" under the subheading "Cons." The video gathered over 11 million plays and over 2.1 million likes in nearly ten months (seen below, left). In a subsequent upload on the same day, she shared more of her cons list, gathering over 900,000 plays and 117,000 likes in over ten months (seen below, right).[2]

Spread

Yuni continued to post anti-pregnancy and anti-baby content on her page in subsequent months, often with a text overlay that read, "Daily reminder to take your birth control." On March 2nd, 2022, Yuni posted a screen recording that showed a woman talking about her placenta, in response to which Yuni added "#212: you grow an extra organ the size of a deflated basketball" to her "pregnancy cons" list.[4] The video gathered over 9 million plays and 1.7 million likes in nine months (seen below, left). On April 21st, she posted a video adding "#261: Loose Titty Skin" to her list, gathering over 8 million plays and 999,000 likes in nearly eight months (seen below, right).[5]

On September 1st, 2021, Yuni created a website that compiled 35 pros for having children and 350 cons for having children.[3]Β

Various TikTokers began to post videos with captions along the lines of, "Where is the girl with the list?" soon after the original creator went viral, with more TikTokers tagging her or simply calling for a "girl with the list" in the comment sections of videos that show the negative or scary sides of childbearing. On December 12th, TikToker[6] @gig_beans duetted a video that explained how babies can have periods and swollen testicles as a result of the mother's hormones in the first few weeks of life, gathering over 1 million plays and 380,00 likes in nearly a month (seen below, left). On December 13th, TikToker[7] @j_sacs89 posted a video showing her ear looking disfigured and asking for the girl with the list, gathering over 14 million plays and 2.9 million likes in nearly a month (seen below, right).

A bunch of these "reasons" come off as really shallow and vapid, like "Everyone will know you did the nasty" like, who cares? I thought modern society didn't care who had sex, did we suddenly get transported into the Holy Roman Empire or something and now we have to conform to the Catholic Church's absurd asceticism? Does this person live in Iran? If people complain about you having a sex life and you're not doing something cringy like gloating about it 24/7, that's their problem.

Also:

  • >Unironically referring to children as "goblins"

You know what? I take back my previous comment, Tik-Tok is the Devil!

Pregnancy is definitely something that is luck of the draw. It can be utter hell or not all that bad. It can even put an interesting spin on sex (provided the pregnancy isn't high risk.) It just depends. These women come off as a bit vain and selfish, though.
