#GitUpChallenge refers to a dance challenge introduced by American singer Blanco Brown in his 2019 song "The Git Up."

Origin

On May 2nd, 2019, Blanco Brown released the official audio for his song "The Git Up" to YouTube (shown below, left). The video gained over two million views and 46,000 likes in a month and a half. On May 15th, Blanco Bown uploaded a dance tutorial video for his song "The Git Up" (shown below, right). The video garnered over 950,000 views in a month.



Spread

On May 15th, 2019, Fox 46 Charlotte uploaded a video of Meteorologist Nick Kosir attempting "The Git Up" Challenge (shown below, left). The video gained over 186,000 views and 3,800 likes in a month. On May 29th, Cameron Cole uploaded a dance video (shown below, right). The video gained over 165,300 views in 15 days.



On June 7th, TikTok user Harvey Bass uploaded a #gitupchallenge video that gained over 2.4 million likes and 270,700 shares in a week (shown below). His smooth dance moves inspired thousands of other #gitupchallenge videos on TikTok.
