Good Art vs. Bad Art Comparison Sheet, also known as 15 (Pretty Big) Differences
Between Good Art and Bad Art, refers to a 15-item sheet comparing "good art" and "bad art" compiled by an X / Twitter user in late August 2023. The list went viral on the site after being posted, sparking viral debates and parodies with users applying the sheet to various media.
Origin
On August 27th, 2023, X[1] user @oldbooksguy tweeted a 15-item comparison sheet of differences between "good art" and "bad art," comparing their emotional, physical and mental effects among other categories. The post received over 160 reposts, 5,100 quote tweets and 860 likes in three days, effectively getting ratioed (sheet and post shown below, left and right).
Spread
Starting on the same day, the post became a subject of debates and parodies on X. For example, on August 28th, 2023, X[2] user @EmmaTolkin posted a cropped image from the sheer reading, "Bad Art: makes you feel weird," commenting, "Cronenberg CANCELLED" in reference to the famous body-horror director David Cronenberg. The post (shown below, left) received over 230 reposts and 5,900 likes in two days.
On August 29th, artist u m a m i quoted[3] the post, commenting, "The most annoying people are in the world are fucking losers who make charts about what good art and bad art is." The post (shown below, right) received over 260 reposts and 3,700 likes in one day.
In addition to X, the post also achieved popularity on Tumblr. For example, on August 29th, 2023, Tumblr[4] user kaftan posted it, writing, "Tag yourself as this list of “bad art” features, according to a twitter fascist." The post (shown below) garnered over 19,500 likes and reblogs in one day.
