About
Tested Positive For is a snowclone parodying tweets confirming cases of the Coronavirus. In the parody tweets, people will say they or another person has "tested positive for" a physical or emotional attribute unrelated to the outbreak, such as Tested Positive for Missing the Homies.
Origin
"Tested Positive For" parody tweets began on March 12th, 2020. The first post of this ilk to gain significant spread was posted by @BackyardJulz,[1] who posted, "Tested positive for no hoes" and gained over 51,000 retweets and 123,000 likes (shown below).
Precursor
The snowclone is similar to I Just Took A DNA Test, which similarly used the set up of a medical test to make an observation about oneself.
Spread
Over the following several weeks, the snowclone evolved as people began making observations about others and themselves. Often these would be sexual jokes. For example, one popular iteration was making a pun on COVID-19 to "COCKBIG-19." For example, Twitter user @LadyLovato[2] made the joke about actor Ansel Elgort, gaining over 600 retweets and 4,400 likes (shown below, left). Parody account @screensrant[3] posted the same joke about Adam Driver, gaining over 130 retweets and 700 likes (shown below, right).
Another popular iteration of the joke featured people bragging about their sexual assets. For example, user @derekedwardsgb[4] posted "just tested positive for havin an 11 inch cock. cheers," gaining over 490 retweets and 4,700 likes (shown below, left). User @quenblackwell[5] tweeted, "tested positive for having the juiciest, roundest, GALLON JUGS on my chest," gaining over 3,600 retweets and 30,000 likes (shown below, right).
Tested Positive For Missing The Homies
Tested Positive for Missing the Homies is a copypasta used to express feelings of loneliness and longing for one's friends. The phrase grew in popularity on Twitter during the quarantine period of the coronavirus in March 2020. Additionally, the phrase parodies how one might share the news that they tested positive for the coronavirus.
