Gordon Ramsay on Hot Ones refers to a series of memes and jokes referencing and using screenshots from Chef Gordon Ramsay's appearance on the YouTube series Hot Ones, an interview show in which guests answer questions while eating a plate of chicken wings that increase in spiciness as the interview progresses. Most of the memes from the interview feature a moment when Ramsay sprays a wing with lemon and lime juice in an attempt to make the bite more palatable.

Origin

On January 24th, 2019, the YouTube channel First We Feast released the Hot Ones episode "Gordon Ramsay Savagely Critiques Spicy Wings." One of the most anticipated and most requested episodes in the show's history, the video received more than 17 million views in four days (shown below).

Spread

Following the release of the video, people began adding captions and other images to screenshots of the episode. For example, the following day, Redditor ^[1] arthur444 posted an image of Ramsay spraying the lemon and lime juice into SpongeBob SquarePants character Patrick Star's mouth in the /r/dankmemes. The post received more than 47,000 points (96% upvoted) and 260 comments in three days (shown below, left).

On January 27th, 2019, Redditor^[2] Theodore877 posted an object-labeled variation in the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit. The post received more than 42,000 points (88% upvoted) and 1,100 comments in 24 hours (shown below, right).
