Gunt

About

Gunt is a slang term referring to the bulging area between the waist and genitals of overweight or obese women and, to a lesser degree, men. It is a portmanteau of the words "gut" and "cunt." The term "gock" is also sometimes used for men in the same manner. The origins of the term are unclear and date back to at least 2002 online when it was first defined on Urban Dictionary. The term has seen regular use online throughout the 2000s. Right-wing podcaster Ethan Ralph is often referred to as "gunt," with a video of his belly jiggling becoming an exploitable in 2020.

Origin

On September 24th, 2002, Urban Dictionary^[1] user Mickey Deuce defined "gunt," writing, "Bulging area found on large older women between the waist and the genital area. Not quite a gut, not quite a cunt… The Gunt." This is the earliest known use of the term online and received over 5,200 thumbs-ups in roughly 19 years.

Spread

The slang term was used increasingly online over the course of the 2000s. On March 21st, 2007, it was used on Twitter^[2] for the first known time when @DPF wrote, "Well shunt me in the gunt and call me a munt funter. As soon as Bob Woolmer died I suspected he was poisoned. Death now seen as suspicious." On February 24th, 2010, the term was used on 4chan^[3] for the first time when an anonymous /tv/ user wrote "First of all, that woman has a gunt and if you're telling me that if she was a normal, healthy weight her boobs would still be that big then you sir, are an idiot," in response to an image of an overweight woman.

On February 9th, 2012, the WordPress^[4] blog guntsandgocks defined both terms and posted a number of examples of gunts and gocks, never posting again (examples shown below).

On February 15th, 2020, a now-deleted Redditor posted an image to /r/BoneAppleTea^[5] and Imgur^[6] showing a woman misspelling "extravagant" as "eggs trava gunt" (shown below).

Ethan Ralph

Right-wing podcaster Ethan Ralph, or @TheRalphRetort on Twitter, host of the Killstream podcast, is often made fun of online for having a gunt, earning him the nickname "Gunt." For example, on September 28th, 2020, Ralph posted a photograph to Twitter^[7] of himself with a number of other people and Boogie2988 Pointing a Gun photoshopped in, writing "reexamining this picture…something is jumping out at me now but I can't place it?" One commenter writes, "Is it your gunt perhaps?" with a closeup showing Ralph's protruding gunt (shown below, left and right).

In August 2020, Ethan Ralph sent a sex tape to Faith Vickers' e-boyfriend, a girl Ralph claimed to be having sex with.^[9][13] The link was revealed on-stream, giving all Ralph's viewers access to it, who reuploaded it across the web. This was explained in a video by YouTuber drumr828 on August 16th, 2020 (shown below).

Following the sex tape, people began using a cutout of Ralph's gut bouncing from the video as an exploitable in memes. On August 11th, YouTuber^[11] Say No To GENO posted a green screen of the gut (shown below).

On the same day, the user posted a number of examples of memes to Imgur^[12] (shown below). On August 13th, YouTuber^[10] Roberto9k posted a compilation of "gunt" memes, gaining over 2,000 views in a year (age-restricted).

In January 2022 Ralph was beaten up and robbed in Portugal.^[8] On January 29th, YouTuber Paulyfrog64 posted an original cover of "Hurt" titled "Gunt" referencing this incident and Ralph in general, gaining over 2,300 views in two weeks (shown below).
